Research shows that negative situations can result in positive growth, and that there are things we can do to help us through difficult situations. Furthermore wellbeing is now front and centre of people’s minds in a way it wasn’t before. However our knowledge of wellbeing does not necessarily help us change our wellbeing habits and behaviours.  Why not?  What are the barriers to leaders changing their own wellbeing in sustainable ways?

Join us for a wellbeing session, where we will share some of our views and experiences in relation to these challenging questions.  In this session, we discuss simple steps to take and approaches shown to help people deal with testing times.

We are delighted to be joined by a special guest speaker, Paul Lacy, the founder and former CEO of kikki.k, who will talk frankly about his recent personal and professional challenges, and what’s helping with his wellbeing.

“Resilience is just not something you have, it’s something you do… ” (Barton et al., 2020). So many things this year have impacted on our own and other people’s resilience; and it continues to be one of the biggest leader challenges in 2020. Throw in for many of us an emerging or potential compassion fatigue and it is certainly time for another Steople event.

Compassionate leadership is critical in a crisis, but when the leader themselves is also living in the same crisis, and the crisis limps on, fatigue is a significant risk. While “compassion fatigue”, defined by Figley as the “cost of caring for others in emotional pain”, has typically been used for the helping professions, in 2020, its reach is much broader and impacts all leaders.

In our next virtual event, we will explore together some of the actions that leaders can take to ‘do’ resilience and reduce COVID-related compassion fatigue.
